TOOL GUIDE · LETTER CASE
What uppercase conversion changes
The selected text is passed through JavaScript’s toLocaleUpperCase method. This changes letters according to Unicode and locale behavior supported by the browser. It does not translate words, fix spelling, or apply an editorial style guide. Non-letter characters such as numerals and punctuation are retained.
Case rules can be context-sensitive for some languages. Some symbols do not have a one-to-one uppercase form, and converting case can change string length. If a value is used as a machine identifier, token, checksum, or case-sensitive key, changing its case may make it a different value.
Useful applications
Uppercase output can help format headings, normalize a display label, or compare text under a defined case-insensitive convention. Before normalizing identifiers, verify the receiving system’s rules. Names, acronyms, brand spellings, and language-specific text often need human review.
For lowercase, use the lowercase converter. For a simple word-initial style, see Title Case.
Review before reuse
- Keep the original if exact spelling or case may matter.
- Inspect proper names, abbreviations, and multilingual content.
- Confirm whether the downstream comparison is case-sensitive.
The casing operation runs in your browser. No input text is uploaded to a FormatInstant transformation server.
